This Academy Award®-winning short documentary brings us the colorful, energetic and active senior citizens of the Alliance Stage Company on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. On stage they are at home, amidst a community with a common purpose. Away from the theater, however, they confront the problems that face many older people – loneliness, failing health and financial insecurity. The film follows their rehearsals for a play drawn from their own experiences trying to find companionship in old age with the personals section of the newspaper as their dramatic device. We meet the individual members and hear their stories which humorously convey their longing for love, sex and meaningful relations. Most inspiring is the zest for life with which these individuals imbue their theatrical undertakings.
