Wondrous Oblivion
Thursday, December 9 6:30 pm at Avalon Theater Saturday, December 11 7:45 pm at Washington DCJCC
UK , 2002 , 35mm 106 minutes English Director: Paul Morrison Set in a working-class London neighborhood in 1960, David is a young Jewish boy with a passion for cricket, despite his klutzy ineptitude at the sport. When a Jamaican family moves in next-door, David is thrilled when they install a cricket green in the backyard. He immediately befriends them and gets remedial cricket tutoring from Dennis, the father. However, the other neighbors mostly white Christians are significantly less pleased by the new diversity of their community. A moving coming-of-age tale set against resonant themes of race, class and ethnicity. Introduction: Sarah Frankland, Arts Manager, the British Council USA Co-sponsored by The British Council USA |
