Shivah for My Mother: Seven Days of Mourning
Wednesday, December 8th
6:00 pm at Washington DCJCC
Israel , 2004 , DVD 55 minutes English and Hebrew with English subtitles Director: Yael Katzir Yael Katzir's ( Company Jasmine , WJFF 2001) very personal film about the seven days of mourning that followed her mother's death serves simultaneously as an examination of the political and emotional relationships between three generations of Israelis. Katzir's mother was part of the generation of sabras who helped Israel gain its independence and oversaw the renaissance of the Hebrew language. But her devotion to the national mission often times came at the expense of her own family. In the process of judging her mother, Yael realizes that she is judged by her own children, who call her to account both for her personal shortcomings and what her own generation of sabras has foisted on the youth of Israel . Special Guest: Dan Katzir, son of Yael Katzir Co-sponsored by the Embassy of Israel
