Israel/France, 2004, 35mm 91 minutes Hebrew with English subtitles Director: Keren YedayaA powerful debut feature-film from Keren Yedaya shows the tragic arc of a mother-daughter relationship trapped in a cycle of poverty. 17-year-old Or has spent much of her life trying to convince her mother to quit working the streets as a prostitute. In a world in which adults have utterly failed her, Or works menial jobs cleaning dishes and collecting deposit bottles while sporadically attending school. When her mother returns bloody and badly beaten from a night on the streets, Or makes a drastic choice to attempt to regain control of their lives. Or wowed critics at the Cannes International Film Festival and went on to win the Wolgin Award for Best Israeli Film at the Jerusalem International Film Festival. Co-sponsored by New Israel Fund, the Embassy of Israel, the Embassy of France and the Alliance Francaise de Washington, DC
