Director: Daniel Anker
With Panel Discussion

A fascinating documentary by Academy Award™ nominee (and Washington-native) Daniel Anker examines the American film industry's response to the horrors of Nazi Germany. Beginning with the ambivalence of the Jewish Hollywood moguls during the rise and spread of anti-Semitic fascism, through the silence of the post-war years and on through the flood of Holocaust-themed films at the end of the 20 th Century, Imaginary Witness asks hard questions about popular culture, responsibility, historical memory and the power of film. The documentary employs a treasure-trove of classic and rare film clips including The Great Dictator , The Mortal Storm , Judgement at Nuremberg , Sophie's Choice and Schindler's List and includes interviews with Steven Spielberg, Sidney Lumet, Rod Steiger and many others.
