The Chosen People
Thursday, December 9
6:30 pm at Washington DCJCC
Canada , 2004 , BetaSP 68 minutes English, Hebrew, Russian with English Subtitles. Director/Producer: Igal Hecht Co-produced by Ron Furman US PREMIERE This new documentary takes us inside the chilling alternate universe of Messianic Jews (also known as Jews for Jesus), a movement that proselytizes that Jews can accept Jesus as the messiah and keep their Jewish identity. The film spotlights two sisters in their early twenties who recently “converted” to the messianic movement. Alternately, the film also gives voice to the counter-missionary efforts of organizations like Jews for Judaism, who in Toronto occupy a storefront space next-door to a Messianic congregation. On the heels of this past summer's missionary campaign by a local DC-area church as well as by Jews for Jesus, this is clearly an issue of great urgency that only promises to escalate in coming years. Special Guests: Igal Hecht, Director/Producer and Scott Hillman, Director, Jews for Judaism
