We regret that actress Yael Abecassis will not be in attendance for these screenings.

One of the best regarded films at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Kadosh is a nuanced tale of two ultra-Orthodox sisters who live in Jerusalem’s Mea Shearim neighborhood. Rivka (Yael Abecassis), the older sister, has been married to Meir for ten years but they have been unable to have children. Though deeply in love with Rivka, Meir is being pressured by his father to end the marriage in favor of a younger woman who can presumably give him a grandson. Meanwhile, Malka (Meital Barda), the younger sister, consents to an arranged marriage despite the fact that she is in love with an former-yeshiva student. Although acclaimed director Amos Gitai is clearly critical of the ultra-Orthodox attitude towards women, his main characters and the dilemmas in which they find themselves trapped are meant to be sympathetic.
