Hinieni tells the story of Shulamit Izen who began ninth grade at a multi-denominational Jewish day school as an out lesbian. Shulamit’s efforts to organize a gay-straight alliance at the school expose the tensions between tradition and social change within the pluralistic philosophy of a Jewish school. What begins as one student’s mission engages an entire community in an open discussion concerning a culture of tolerance and inclusion.
