Greensboro: Closer to the Truth

- Greensboro: Closer to the Truth
On November 3, 1979, five members of the Communist Workers Party were shot in broad daylight by the Klu Klux Klan during a "Death to the Klan" rally in Greensboro, North Carolina. What began as a peaceful protest quickly turned into a deadly confrontation. Klansmen and Nazis showed up at the site of the protest with loaded guns, and started firing. While the event was reported, no one was ever formally charged for what became known as "The Greensboro Massacre." This staggering event was hidden in bylines because the Iran Hostage Crisis broke the very next day.
Greensboro: Closer to the Truth examines the crime twenty-five years later, with interviews from those who were widowed and wounded, and their attackers. All the players come together at the first Truth and Reconciliation Commission ever held in the United States. The commission was held from 2004-2006 in Greensboro, to examine the tragedy, uncover the truth and provide those who suffered the injuries and loss of loved ones with redemption and closure.
